EX-SLEEPASAURUS. Released in 2002, Gotham! is Radio 4's second full length record. It’s about New York, it was made in New York and it sounds like New York. After touring the states supporting their debut album, The New Song And Dance, R4 released the 12" ep Dance to the Underground, (which included the indie club hit DTTU and crowd favorite, Caroline). Following that ep’s success, the band was then able to team up with the red hot production duo the DFA (James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and Tim Goldsworthy of UNKLE) to make a record that honored both their post punk beginnings and the current dance/electronic scene. Gotham! moves effortlessly from twitchy punk (Our Town) to funk (Struggle) to agit pop (Save Your City) to downtempo electro (Speaking in Codes), and never stops commenting on New York along the way. Coinciding with the early oughts NYC revolution (Strokes, Rapture, Interpol, YYY’S), the record was acclaimed worldwide, particularly in the UK, where it made year end lists in the NME and Uncut (et al), found them in rotation on MTV, and making festival appearances around the globe.
